CASSON Seeks Stronger Partnership With PPEB

BY AMBROSE OLOGIDE

IN a bid to strengthen collaboration with the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB), the Counseling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), Delta State Chapter, has paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of PPEB, Prof. Emmanuel Tibi, at the Board’s headquarters in Asaba.

Leading the delegation, the State Chairman of the Association, Ven. Dr. Peters Agamugoro, expressed appreciation to Prof. Tibi for making time to receive the team despite his tight schedule. He highlighted key challenges confronting school counselors across the state, particularly the need for increased professional recognition and better integration into the education system. Ven. Dr. Agamugoro also proposed a capacity-building workshop and called for a strategic partnership between the Association and the Board.

Responding, Prof. Tibi, who warmly welcomed the delegation, described the visit as both timely and necessary. He underscored the crucial role of counselors in promoting students’ well-being and academic performance, lamenting that many remain underutilized in schools.

Prof. Tibi reiterated the Board’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for counselors to thrive and emphasized the need for collaboration with relevant educational agencies. He also stressed the importance of sensitizing school principals on the relevance of guidance and counseling, alongside the need for continuous training to align with evolving global trends, especially in the era of Artificial Intelligence.

In her vote of thanks, the Association’s Secretary, Ms. Iroro Oyearone, expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception and the Chairman’s openness to support future initiatives. She reaffirmed the Association’s readiness to work closely with PPEB in advancing effective counseling services across public secondary schools in Delta State.
