Delta NULGE Applauds Financial Intervention For LG Workers

BY CHIKA KWAMBA

IN a united stance, members of the State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Delta State Chapter, have applauded the state government for its prompt financial intervention in support of local government workers’ welfare.

Addressing journalists during a press conference held at the NULGE House in Asaba, the state capital, the state President, Comrade Ogberetitiro Obatarhe, alongside other executive members and union representatives, expressed deep appreciation to the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s

Comrade Obatarhe, while highlighting key issues affecting workers, particularly praised Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering commitment to local government employees and pensioners, especially through the recent approval of funds to offset arrears owed retirees in the state.

His words “In our union structure, this is the second-highest decision-making body after the State Delegates’ Conference. We are here to review the welfare of our members and assess the impact of government decisions on their wellbeing and working conditions.

“A major concern of our deliberation was the governor’s demonstrated concern for the welfare of local government workers. Recently, the sum of ₦2 billion was approved by the Governor to clear outstanding pension arrears. This is in addition to previously released funds targeted at resolving pension backlogs across local governments.”

“As we speak, many retirees have begun to receive their payments. Additionally, local government workers are now benefitting from the minimum wage implementation in line with their counterparts in the state civil service.

Obatarhe further commended the governor’s performance in infrastructural development across Delta’s 25 local government areas.

“For all he has done for Deltans, including road and bridge construction, we have passed a vote of confidence in Governor Oborevwori. Roads linking Ughelli, Ozoro, Isoko, Kwale, and Asaba have significantly improved, making access to our union offices easier.

“We (NULGE) also have sent a congratulatory message to the governor and reiterated our support for his administration. We will continue to stand with him and by him.

Accordingly, the union has endorsed the Governor , Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for re-election in the 2027 general election,” Obatarhe added.
