Asaba sons and daughters in the diaspora have been urged not to remain endlessly in foreign lands forgetting their root.
The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Asagba Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, made the call when an Asaba – born Professor of Engineering, Austin Gbasouzo, who recently returned from the United States of America, paid him a courtesy visit.
Asagba Prof Azinge, who said there was no place like home, noted that Asaba had grown in lips and bounds to become the preferred destination for all, and unarguably the fastest growing state capital in Nigeria and Africa.
He said, that notwithstanding, a lot still needed to be done to take the town to the desired height, which he had vowed to champion, pointing out, however, that the individual and collective contributions of sons and daughters of the community at home and abroad were crucial to achieving the goal.
The highly revered king disclosed that a Committee had been set up to coordinate the return of those desirous to relocate from their foreign bases, adding that the Committee would soon be inaugurated.
The Asagba commended Prof Gbasouzo, now lecturing at the Anambra State University, Uli, for his academic accomplishments and thanked him for proposing the creation of the Faculty of Engineering at the Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, which he promised to follow up.
Asagba Prof Azinge urged him to be a good ambassador for the Asaba community and to protect the interest of Asaba, and indeed, Delta students in his new place of work.
Earlier, Prof Gbasouzo said his visit to the palace was to formally congratulate Asagba Prof Azinge on his ascension to the throne, which took place while he was away in the United States of America.
He told the Asagba that he had returned to Nigeria, on completion of his doctorate degree, and was currently working with the Anambra State University, Uli.
The Profession of Engineering stressed the need for the Faculty of Engineering at the Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, and submitted a proposal to the Asagba in that regard.
