DTSG Reaches Out To Over 7,000 Poor, Vulnerable Households In Two Years —Uduaghan

Delta State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl Child Development, Ms. Orode Uduaghan, has said her ministry has empowered over 7,000 poor and vulnerable households within two years across the 25 local government areas in the state.

Orode disclosed this at the State Secretariat, Asaba during an interview to heralds Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration’s second year anniversary.

Ms. Orode noted that the ministry’s mandate was specifically to give livelihood support to the poor and vulnerable households across the state.

She explained that the ministry’s mandate does not include every household or to attend to every Deltan but was specifically created and designed for poor and vulnerable households.

According to her; “our mandate specifically is support His Excellency by giving livelihood support to specifically the poor and vulnerable”.

” Our ministry does not attend to every household and to all Deltans. We were specifically created and designed for poor and vulnerable households”.

The Commissioner disclosed that before her assumption in office, the Humanitarian Ministry had been doing a lot of empowerment projects, and as well did quite a few projects.

“When I came on board as well, we have done quite some projects, we launched the MORE GRANT SCHEME, which is a reoccurring project of His Excellency administration. And that MORE GRANT SCHEME was designed to cater for three different sectors of the poor and vulnerable households”.

She explained that, the first in the sector was the Artisans who are from poor and vulnerable household, while the second category in the sector was the petty traders, the women on the street who are randomly selected selling Akara, ugu and pepper and third category was the female entrepreneurs which were marked from the previous administration project GEST.

She said, the administration was able to give grants between N70,000-N100,000 to one thousand six hundred persons in petty traders across the 25 local Government areas with a random selection to people who really need the support.

She explained that the money criterion was determined by what they sell, and we rated them based on the category of what they sell.

In the third category, which is the female entrepreneurship, Ms. Orode said, extra effort of training was given to them in the 25-local governments before the grant was given, while revealing that the ministry partnered the Enterprise Development Centre, Lagos, PAN Africa University.

She stated further that the female entrepreneurs were trained on entrepreneurship management, bookkeeping and host of others.

The Commissioner, however, thanked the State Governor for giving her the leverage, the support they needed to help Deltans.

… Rewards Pupils, Students For Exemplary Performance In Competitions, Exhibition

The Delta State Government has rewarded deserving pupils and students in the state public and private primary and secondary schools with prizes and awards for their outstanding performances in science competition and exhibition.

The awardees participated in the 2024 primary five mathematics and science competitions and exhibition in the state, held at the Professor Chike Edozien Secretariat, Asaba.

In a keynote address, State Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Ashibogwu, described Mathematics as a potent instrument and a bedrock of many professions that drive innovations, development and solve problems.

Represented by Comrade Ernest Ossai, Ashibogwu described the performance of the pupils in the primary category of the competition as a demonstration of curiosity, diligence, critical thinking and quantitative reasoning skills.

While congratulating the winners, the commissioner extended his appreciation to teachers and parents for nurturing the young talents towards the development and improvement of the learning of science subjects in schools.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu stated that the science competition and exhibitions had showcased incredible talents of the students, adding that the performances of the students were worthy of commendation.

She noted the awardees earned their various positions through hard work, dedication and good conduct.

Mrs. Ezewu, who was represented by Mr. Ejiro Mayor, explained that the competitions had exposed young talents and increased the love of science among secondary school students.

Ezewu congratulated the winner and thanked the state government, teachers and parents for their efforts towards the success of the competitions.

Earlier, the Director of Science Education, Mrs. Hope Igumbor in a welcome address, said the occasion was the presentation of prizes and awards in honour of pupils and students who performed exceptionally in the various stages of the 2024 Primary Five Mathematics, Science Competitions and Exhibitions.

She used the medium to appreciate the state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, commissioners for Primary Education, and Secondary Education as well as parents and teachers. The awards were categorized into four sections for pupils in primary and students in secondary categories.

The first category was primary five mathematics competition with Oghenerukevwe Kaghare of St Michael, Udu; Joy Mudiaga of Treasure Crest International School, Uvwie and Pio Tubotu of St Michael, Udu winning the first, second and third positions respectively.

The second category was science competition and exhibition for primary school pupils with Mitchell Obianife of Women Affairs Primary School, Asaba; Chimkamsi Onwugbenu of Greniel Academy, Asaba and Esther Nzekwe of Okwe Primary School, Okwe were awarded first, second and third positions respectively.

The third category was Science Competition and Exhibition for Junior Secondary Schools across the state, won by Chibuike Obi of Notre-Dame College, Ozoro; Favour Akintola of First Baptist, Warri and Jonathan Akparobi of St Joseph Technical College, Ozoro in first, second and third positions respectively.

The last category of awards on Science Competition and Exhibition for Senior Secondary Schools went to Akporoghene Oyibo of Notre Dame College, Ozoro (first), Princess Gift of Government Model Secondary School, Asaba (second) and Favour Oseahaegbhe of Niger Mixed Secondary School, Asaba (third).
