The Executive Director of Projects at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun Dr Ebenezer Okorodudu, has urged the Urhobo People’s Integrity Organization (UPIO) to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s bold initiatives aimed at accelerating development across the state.
He stated this when members of UPIO led by the First Vice President Dr. Samuel Efetobor paid him a solidarity visit in his office today in DESOPADEC corporate head office in Warri.
“I welcome my people and my organization to DESOPADEC once more. Now that you have come to see me, it shows I’m recognized in my own home,” he said. “A prophet is not always honored in his hometown—but today, I am.”
He praised the Urhobo People’s Integrity Organization for its long-standing role in promoting and defending Urhobo interests since its establishment in 2012. He described the group as the only Urhobo ethinic-based organization that regularly meets to discuss issues affecting Urhobo Nation.
Speaking on the political realignment, the EDP noted that the Governor’s defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC was a well-consulted decision involving religious, political, and youth leaders across the state. He stated that the transition was a bold move aimed at leveraging federal opportunities for the benefit of Delta State.
“The Governor has more information than anyone else in the state. When he saw the need to join APC, he consulted stakeholders and unified both PDP and APC structures under one leadership. Today, APC in Delta State is no longer in opposition—it is the state’s party,” he explained
He added that this fusion had eliminated longstanding divisions and restored a sense of unity among political actors, enabling faster and more inclusive development.
The EDP also highlighted some of the administration’s infrastructural achievements across the state, including the construction of bridges in Effurun and Warri by Julius Berger, dualization of roads from Ughelli to Asaba, rehabilitation of key junctions in Warri, and massive internal road upgrades in Effurun, Warri, Asaba and all major towns in Delta State.
“What we have not seen in past administrations is what is happening now. Salaries are paid, pensioners are smiling, projects are ongoing, many are completed and commissioned—all without borrowing a kobo,” he said.
He emphasized that Urhobo people must support the Governor’s bold decisions, adding that national recognition of his developmental achievements was already evident.
The EDP expressed deep gratitude to the Integrity Organization for its support during difficult years of political uncertainty, acknowledging their role in keeping the group alive and strong.
“I will never take your loyalty for granted,” he said. “I will continue to respect you as leaders of the Urhobo Nation and our organization.”
Speaking during the visit the First Vice President of UPIO, Chief Dr Samuel Efetobor commended the leadership qualities and track record of the EDP, noting his consistent commitment to integrity and selfless service
“A good man deserves good things,” Dr. Efetobor stated. “It’s not everybody that, even while in office, will still be this accessible and open. We know you very well—not just from your time as a two-time commissioner in Delta State or as Chairman of the Delta Printing and Publishing Company—but from your character as a contentious and virtuous man.”
He emphasized the organization’s longstanding relationship with the EDP and highlighted the need to strengthen that bond through continuous fellowship, both at home and in office.
Dr. Efetobor noted that UPIO’s visit was not just ceremonial, but a reaffirmation of their support for the EDP’s current role and future endeavors. “We believe your performance will surpass your previous records. Your leadership will speak even louder now, and we are here to be part of that journey,” he remarked.
He also expressed confidence in the projects being undertaken under the EDP’s stewardship, stating that visible progress is now evident. “I used to hear about the DESOPADEC—but now I see. I have seen projects. I’ve seen initiatives being inspected. That gives us hope.”
He assured the EDP of UPIO’s full support. “Whatever role you wish us to play, do not hesitate to call on us. We are ready and willing to contribute actively to your success.”
In the same vein, Bishop Dr. Duke Akpososo (High Chief) described the EDP as a man of honour stating ‘’You’re not aggressive, you’re not volatile. You are always willing to help, and you are one person I hold in the highest esteem.
He appealed to the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to provide the necessary support for the EDP to function effectively.
“We know Julius Berger’s strength lies in materials. We also know that the man seated here has projects. If he has the materials, he will catch fire. So we are calling on you. We are calling on our Excellency to make materials available for this commission to thrive,” he said.
The highlight of the UPIO delegation’s visit was the formal presentation of a traditional walking stick, fan, and cap to the Executive Director of Projects (EDP), Olorogun Dr. Chief Ebenezer Okurodudu, as an appreciation for his unwavering commitment, leadership, and long-standing support to the UPIO.
