Delta Committed To Safety, Welfare Of Corps Members –Oborevwori

By Ebi Nieketien

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety, welfare, and empowerment of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. ThankGod Trakiriowei, at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, the governor assured the corps members of a conducive and secure environment throughout their service year.

Governor Oborevwori revealed that the state had sensitized key stakeholders, including community leaders, and residents to ensure corps members were treated with dignity, care, and respect.

He noted that his administration was also committed to upgrading the facilities at the Issele-Uku orientation camp with modern infrastructure, capable of offering a world-class orientation experience for them.

The governor called on the private sector to support NYSC activities, particularly Community Development Service (CDS) projects, emphasizing that such partnerships could drive development in host communities while giving them the platform to make meaningful impacts.

While encouraging the corps members to embrace discipline and the spirit of service, Oborevwori urged them to fully engage in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which he said, was designed to equip them with practical skills and prepare them for self-reliance in today’s competitive job market.

In his welcome address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, stated that a total of 1,802 prospective corps members had been registered for the three-week orientation course.

He said the programme was carefully structured to foster unity, instil leadership values, and promote peaceful coexistence among youths from diverse backgrounds.

Kwaghe commended the Delta State Government for its swift intervention in repairing critical camp infrastructure damaged by a recent rainstorm.

He, however, appealed for the swift commencement in constructing a standard kitchen and kitchen store, a pavilion, re-roofing of the multipurpose hall, and rebuilding the broken perimeter fence.
