In a bid to enhance the technology landscape in Delta State, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Daniel Odinigwe has officially unveiled the Delta State Digital Policy Draft, aimed at promoting digital inclusion, fostering innovation, and encouraging digital entrepreneurship to drive the state’s economic growth.
Dr. Odinigwe disclosed this during the presentation of the Delta State Digital and Information Communication Policy, as well as the launch of the Delta Tech Xperience, held at the Prof Chike Edozien Secretariat, Asaba, today.
According to the Commissioner, the presentation of the policy represented a significant milestone in the state’s digital transformation roadmap. He emphasized that it marked a collective commitment to building a more inclusive, innovative, and secure digital future for Delta State.
“When I commissioned this committee, I was driven by a simple truth — Delta State’s future prosperity cannot depend solely on oil resources,” he stated. “As Nigeria’s fourth-largest oil-producing state, we face the pressing challenge of economic diversification. Digital technology offers us the most promising path forward. The rapid advancement of technology has transformed every aspect of our lives — from how we communicate and work, to how we access services and engage with government.”
Dr. Odinigwe also commended the committee members for their dedication in developing a comprehensive framework. He noted that while technological advancement presents vast opportunities, it also brings challenges that require thoughtful and forward-looking strategies.
He called on stakeholders, government agencies, private sector, academic institution and citizen to join the transformative journey designed to harness the benefits of digital transformation, while mitigating risks.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari applauded the Dr. Odinigwe for his tech-driven initiative, assuring him of his Ministry’s partnership towards the realisation of the digital initiative.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl-Child Development, Hon. Orode Uduaghan, said the initiative was a welcome development, noting that it was going to empower many innovators across the state by moving from conventional analogue methods to a modern digital landscape.
