Since the beginning of the year, legendary singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has been trailed by relationship controversies on social media.
Despite the swirl of public drama, the music icon has largely remained silent.
When journalists reached out to his management to understand his silence and how the buzz might affect his career, the Head of Legal and Communication at A Guy Entertainment, Chioma Ebubedike-Igbokwe, stressed that Idibia’s legacy cannot be diminished by such distractions.
She said, “The truth is, controversy sells faster than music in today’s digital climate. But 2Baba’s legacy is untouchable. He is widely regarded as the greatest of all time in African music, and Billboard’s recognition of ‘African Queen’ as the number one afro beats song of all time only underlines that fact.
‘’His catalogue and cultural impact speak louder than temporary noise. Every single song is timeless; this fact remains untouchable.”
According to her, afro beats’ current global dominance rests on the foundation built by pioneers like 2Baba. “Rather than compete with younger acts, our strategy is to showcase his unmatched depth, storytelling, and stagecraft.
‘’There’s a place for both the new wave and the legends, and we’re actively creating platforms where 2Baba’s voice remains indispensable. He creates conscious and meaningful music, and very few of the new generation can match his style.
‘’His status as the undisputed king of afro beats remains unmatched.
Just like legends such as Fela and Christy Essien-Igbokwe, his music is timeless. The younger ones should continually look up to him for inspiration,” she said.
