BY ISAN ISIOMA CARLOS

THE Chairman of Ika North East Local Government Area, Hon. Monday Odigwe, has declared that the year 2026 would be a year of endless possibilities. He said that his administration was committed to service delivery in accordance with his campaign promises before he was elected.

The Chairman made this known recently during the commissioning of Hon. Lucky Aninye Ukpeghoro’s Bus Terminal in Umunede Town in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Bus Terminal, which was built by Hon. Lucky Ukpeghoro, the Councillor representing Ward 11 in the Legislative Arm of Ika North East Local Government, was built to enhance transportation efficiency in the area.

The terminal was also expected to ease the difficulty faced by commuters in the area, who hitherto risked their lives hanging along busy roads to board vehicles to their destinations.

He added that the terminal would serve as a facelift to the Umunede community market.

Hon Odigwe, while commending the Councillor and the people of Umunede Kingdom on the project, reiterated that Ika North East Local Government Area under his watch, would continue to witness the harvest of projects commissioning because his administration in collaboration with the Legislative Arm of the local government would work together to ensure the proper and adequate service delivery to the residents across the local government area.

According to him, “The Executive Complex under construction in the local government secretariat is already 90 per cent completed and the commissioning will take place before the middle of April 2026.”

Hon Odigwe also used the medium to appreciate the Governor of Delta State for his quick release of funds to enhance better administrative services in the local government. He further urged other councillors to emulate the representative example of Hon. Ukpeghoro in project execution in their various wards.

Speaking in his address, Hon Lucky Aninye Ukpeghoro said that the project was executed to ensure the safety of residents, particularly travellers in the area.

While thanking the people of Umunede community for the confidence reposed in him by giving him their mandate as representative, Hon. Ukpeghoro said that the bus terminal was built to offer comfort and a secure waiting area, clear signage and also to ease traffic congestion. This, he said, would also provide a safer environment for commuters away from the menace of impromptu pick-up points, thereby creating a vital link to their local economy.

While thanking the local government Chairman for his support in the project execution, he appealed to him to look into the feasibility of building lockup shops in the community, which he said would help to empower small-scale entrepreneurs in the area.

He further commended the project contractor (Daylight Building Construction Services) and their team for proper project execution within the specified time, told the community members to make judicious use of the new bus terminal by ensuring collective maintenance and total security, so that the project could serve both current and future needs of its community.

Dignitaries at the commissioning ceremony include, leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Eric Chukwuyem Dikenwosi, with other members of the council’s legislative arms, the Obi of Umunede, His Royal Majesty Agadagidi Ezewali 1, and his wife, amongst others.
