1TimeShop Introduces New Safety Measures In Delta State’s Taxi Sector

In response to rising public concern about safety in Nigeria’s transport sector, 1TimeShop, a mobility and delivery platform based in Delta State, has introduced a series of features aimed at improving security for both passengers and drivers.

Public transport in many parts of the country has long been fraught with safety issues, including incidents of “one chance” robberies and fraudulent drivers. Acknowledging these challenges, the 1TimeShop team says it is taking practical steps to build a safer system that works for everyone—passengers, drivers, and the wider public.

“We understand the concerns passengers face when using ride-hailing services, as well as the risks drivers encounter in their line of work,” said Mr. Jeffry Obaro J., Co-founder and Director of Joevexm Nigeria Ltd/1TimeShop. “These new safety features are designed to address those realities with both technology and accountability.”

Background

1TimeShop, launched in August 2022 by Joevexm Nigeria Limited, is based in Asaba, Delta State. It operates as a multi-service mobile platform offering ride-hailing for taxis and tricycles, as well as food, grocery, and logistics delivery services. The company positions itself as a technology-driven solution aimed at improving convenience, safety, and economic opportunity across underserved regions in Nigeria.

Key Features Now Available on the 1TimeShop App

OTP Ride Verification: Passengers must provide a unique one-time password (OTP) to drivers before a trip can begin. This helps ensure that only the assigned driver is able to start the ride, reducing impersonation and misidentification risks.

Emergency SOS with Live Tracking: In case of emergencies, an SOS button in the app instantly shares live trip information—including location—with emergency contacts and authorities, enabling quicker responses.

Driver Verification Process (KYC): All drivers are subject to a Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure that includes identity verification and vehicle documentation. This step is intended to improve trust and weed out unqualified drivers.

Trip Sharing with Trusted Contacts: Passengers can share their real-time location with family and friends during a ride, enhancing transparency and personal security.

Direct Law Enforcement Contact: The app now includes access to emergency contacts for local law enforcement, allowing users to report suspicious or criminal activity directly.

Driver Communication Hub: Drivers now have access to a dedicated in-app channel for receiving real-time updates on road conditions, security alerts, and other relevant information that can improve safety and navigation.

A Broader Push for Safer Urban Transport

While these features are now available in Delta State, the company says they are part of a broader effort to contribute to a safer and more regulated urban transport system.

For passengers, the goal is to offer a more secure alternative to informal or unregulated transport options. For drivers, the platform offers a structured way to earn income while reducing personal safety risks. The company also emphasizes the potential for its platform to support job creation and safer mobility as it expands.
